Chris Duffy was indeed put on the DL today even though his X-ray was negative and an MRI revealed no ligament damage. This is not good.
Then the Pirates brought up Matt Kata from AAA of all people and designated for assignment Marty McLeary for God’s sakes.
Obviously the front office is unraveling to allow McLeary to be exposed to the wire over the likes of Morgan, Wasdin, Armas, or Rogers. Heck, next thing we’ll probably see is dope smokin Corey brought up and Bayliss put on the wire.

Am I the only bothered that Tracy just doesn’t seem to want to hit Bay cleanup? He’s been shuffled around in the lineup all year so he’s not getting settled as he has in the past to go on those hot streaks and whenever LaRoche or Nady get a few hits they are all of a sudden hitting cleanup – where of course they then precede to cool off. Just let Bay hit cleanup where he has the past two years. It’s where he belong. No?
I’ll lay the question out there if your named the GM tomorrow what would be your plan to fix the Buccos from scouting department to players? General plan , I see Jake and all the writers on the site have their ups and downs on certain moves DL makes. Now is your time to be the GM of the Buccos.
I think they are going in the right direction but I do question some of the acquisitions like the Perez for Nady deal.
We need to stock arms and develop them – no if, ands, or butts about that. It will be interesting to see who they replace Gary Ruby with as pitching coordinator.
This is my plan:
Step 1- Keep the outfield platoon of Rajai Davis and Nate McLouth I would like to see Rajai play more cause he can bunt for hits and is more of a table setter early on then McLouth which everyone talks about his speed I haven’t seen that speed on the base paths yet in stolen bases.
2. Scrap the whole GM, scouting department gut it all look if your Bob Nuttings at the organizations that win with less payroll since you wont spent more then 50 million- Florida, Oakland, Atlanta, Cleveland.
3. Find that first baseman I told people in the offseason go after James Loney cause he’s a guy with speed good defense and can hit the ball with power to the gaps and doesn’t k everyone thought I was crazy.
4. Entertain offers for Jason Bay. Jason is getting older plus he doesn’t have the tools right now around him to help us win more games with use of his talent.
5. Trim the fat of this roster- Jack Wilson , AAA Armas Jr, Zach Duke, Bayless, Burnett. Trade anything except for Gorzo or Ian Snell right now. Rebuild unfortunate will be required because of the old gm inability to draft and trade for ready to play major leaguers.
Some of my list of minor leaguers that I have been looking at and also some of the less time major leaguers- Minor leaguers – Brandon Moss .301 , Yohan Pino 3-3 1.58era , Justin Ruggiano .302 40rbi’s,, Aaron Laffey 6-3 3.10era, Brett Smith 6-4 2.77, Alan Horne 7-3 2.38era, Jose Tabata .308 35rbi, Chris Stewart .395. Major leaguers- I still like James Loney, Brad Hawpe, Renyel Pinto, Jonathon Broxton. There’s more guys I look at just a few off the top of head.
If you are the GM you need try to stockpile in both areas and your scouting department needs to be strong with bright minds and baseball people who know the game and what it takes to be successful.
