Pirates Blueprint already obsolete. Where’s Part II?

I have two MLB.com Fantasy League Baseball slots left to fill.. both are for a live draft next Thursday 03/18 at 09:00 pm ET.  The league is free to play, MLB’s software will draft best available for you if you can’t make the live draft (I won my division that way last year), and very little time is needed during the year – you set your roster one time for the next week’s play and that’s it unless you want to make trades or something.  The exciting part about this one league is that it is only an 8 team league so your chances of winning the division and heading into the playoffs for a chance to win $10,000 is a lot better than the 12-team leagues.  Leave a comment below if you would like an invitation.

The other two leagues are now full. Here are the draft orders:

B&G1 League:

Draft Pos.   East
6 PIT
12 screamin demons
4 2011NLCDchamps
11 Cherub Nine
2 Team II Beat
8 Hotel-Dotel
Draft Pos. West
5 Squirrel Hill Nuts
9 Bonds3232
1 Lions632
3 Brookville Bucs
7 KoolaidSippin2010
10 OV Splits

B&G2 League:

Draft Pos.    East

5 Grafton Bucco s
7 Rock N Roll Bandits
8 George H
11 Baseball Kings
3 ReynoldsBucs
Draft Pos. West
4 jsn4219
10 You Have No Mahbles
9 Zack C
1 Playground Legends
12 The Burgh Bombers
2 Blue Ridge Gnomes

Chris Sale’s start was short-lived as they were rained out.

Bucs will see Clay Buchholz Saturday with  Hideki Okajima and Daniel Bard throwing in the later “B” game.

Traveling so quick post..

I had an interesting e-mail from a reader who asked why the Pirates haven’t updated their “Blueprint.”  It was an interesting question because the five priorities outlined in the initial Blueprint, four of which are things expected of any organization anyway, are now obsolete.

So, where is Part II?

If it can draft for me then I’ll throw my hat in. I can’t do a live draft. I’ll be sleeping or at work.

The entire organization is obsolete. Until they worry about the product they put on the field before things like bobblehead nights, fireworks, post game concerts, miracle fields and winter league hockey games, then nothing will change. The sad part is the owner in Nutting doesnt give a rats ass about anything except making a profit. Winning on the field is gravy to him. You have to crawl before you can walk and this franchise is still in the crib sucking on a pacifier.

ok Ned, you are backup #1. If I can add enough players, we’ll form another league.

Jake, if you get more requests, is it possible to turn the 8 team league into a 10 team league?

EDIT…guess I should have continued reading the comments. I echo what The Other Jake says.

Not on today’s topic, but I thought someone might be interested in discussing the Pirates stats at this early stage.

Probably nobody would be surprised to see the defense lagging behind last year. FPCT doesn’t look too hot and the DP, while adequate, are not above average. Having Young and Diaz up the middle probably has led to some Es and lack of DPs, but Cedeno and Aki haven’t shined much either. One small victory has been the Pirates leading the league in catching baserunners stealing. They are the only NL team to have a plus per centage for teams which have faced at least chances. In contrast the Mets have failed to catch anyone in 12 attempts.

As expected, the starting pitching has walked a majority of the hitters who have gotten a free pass. Conversely, the bullpen has a high ratio of the Ks so far. Is this a combo of the starters facing the better lineup or the ‘pen seeing the lesser lights? If Hart and one of the NRI numbers are thrown out the walks come way down.

Hitting has been a disappointment so far. None of the projected starting IF is hitting well. The starting OF seems to be okay and Doumit, in a very few at bats, is more than keeping his head above water. Crosby hopefully, can continue as he is. Church and Raynor have been up and down. Young has driven in runs, but isn’t an option for FT play. Moss would have been better served at this point to have faked an injury and not embarrassed himself. Pearce isn’t moving ahead of Clement, who also has shown nothing with the bat up till now. JJ is close to being a lock. Two million dollars appears to be headed out the window with another bad FA position signing as RV prepares to bite the dust.

Has anybody seen Traschner and Thomas pitch? I’d like to know how they look.

Real early to be looking at individuals, but maybe someone who has seen these guys live might want to make some comments. Someone did this a few days ago and it was a good read.

This could be the pirates pen (could be classified as the retirement crew)- dj carrasco- long relief, vinnie the terrible chulk, jack taschner, javier lopez, brian bass, evan meek, and dotel closing, with Hanrahan on the shelf to start the season.

    • SalemPirate said:

Donnelly will be in the pen. Carrasco is a NRI, as are Chulk and Taschner. DJ will almost surely make it, but adding 2 more to the 40 man is maybe too much of a longshot. There will be an adjustment for Ascanio (60 day DL). Taschner might have the upper hand, being a lefty, for the 6th spot but expect a rookie or even Thomas to man the 7th spot. One other option would be for Hart to move to the pen.

That part of the blueprint makes you want to play a numerous loop of the price is right losing horns behind that blueprint especially the dominican operations.

You are backup #2 PJ. Not sure what happened with your e-mail I sent you.. maybe it ended up in the spam bin?

    Jake,

If there are still people who want to sign up, I say let’s increase the size of the 8 team league. I’m in that one and I think I’d rather play in a 10-12 team league. Plus it lets everyone have a team. 8 team leagues just end up too stacked, it feels like there’s no strategy. I’m in either way…but I say let them join!
