Henry Wofford’s compelling article about Ian Snell’s current battle with depression left me with mixed emotions. On one hand I didn’t know whether or not to believe Snell yet on the other hand I wanted to tip my hat to him for speaking out. But the more I thought back on Snell’s body language on the mound, the more depression made sense. One of those outings was against the Mets June 1st. That picture is below:
To the average fan Snell probably looks like a ten-year-old getting the dickens from his daddy. To me it was a noticable departure in his behavior and why I captured the screen at the time.
Since Ian mentioned he felt he was dragged down by the media and bloggers, and because Bucco Blog has easily been the leader of the Ian Snell Suks campaign over the years, I feel a responsibility to stand up and wish him well. Depression isn’t fun.
Ian, I hope you find inner peace to go with that speeding fastball. Hurry back.

I think we all were way too hard on Snell. Losing and hard times sometimes brings out the worst in people and it seems like the fans/media in Pittsburgh were unjustly harsh on the guy. At the end of the day it’s just baseball. Hopefully he can get it all figured out and be a successful major league pitcher in this league. Get well Snell!
Well Jake pretty poor managing job today by John Russell . Maholm should have been pulled at the end of 4th inning, Garrett Jones has to play cause the Pirates have no power insight until Doumit comes back. Adam K. LaRoche making contact vs. K-Rod was a shock a big hit which Adam K doesnt do often. Matt Capps meat ball in the 10th for gw single was a nice meatball pitch. Jack Wilson and Ramon Suckquez = easy outs for the most part. Robbie Diaz needs to play and hit in the 5 또는 6 hole until his bat calms down it seems like he’s been raking the ball hard over his last few starts.
제이크, when do you think the Pirates will offer a contract to Sano? If so are the Bucs actually going to give him a decent offer? I saw the Cards got the other Latin Phenom. Hopefully we get Sano, I have been a big advacate for the Bucs bringing him in for the past few months now. So who is the next Buc to get dealt?
Apparently Twins are interestred in Capps, Grabow, and especially Sanchez. What could we expect back for each in terms of prospects? Do we match up well with the Twins?
I would guess we are in the middle or negotiating with him right now Tony. But no matter who he decides to sign with, I don’t think it can be announced until after the MLB investigation is over.
Next Buc to go? It won’t be Maholm or Capps with their injuries, 4월? Maybe Gorzy, maybe Snell, maybe Adam LaRoche.. heck, it could be anyone.
